Like every charitable organization, our success is heavily dependent on Friends of Hospice, who assist with the successful running of our programmes, services and events.

We have been fortunate to have the support of a wonderful community of Corporates and individuals who believe in our cause, and supports us in achieving our Mission by supporting our fundraising efforts, which are vital to the services we provide.

If you are interested in joining us as a Friend of Hospice, please call get in touch on 0732690077 or email info@nairobihospice.or.ke

    OUR FRIENDS

    VOLUNTEERS

Nairobi Hospice volunteers play a vital role in patients’ care. They’re able to keep patients company when family and friends are not able to be there, help us with administrative work, and much more.

    Patient Care Volunteers

    Patient care volunteers spend their days with hospice patients. They may visit patient at home. They do not provide any medical or hands-on care, but spend time with the patient, talking with them and keeping them company. Volunteers would also sometimes play the patient’s favourite games with them, like cards or chess, talk with patients about current events if that’s something that the patient is interested in. This type of volunteering is perfect for compassionate, empathetic people who want to help patients. They could sometimes help in;

Grocery shopping Assisting our chef in preparing meals, setting the trays for delivery to the patients, dish washing, and possibly feeding patients if necessary. Volunteers can also assist by doing our weekly grocery shopping on Wednesdays. Volunteers will be reimbursed for the cost of the groceries.

    • Preparing meals for patients – Assisting our chef in preparing meals and dish washing.
    • Helping with simple chores around the house
    • Transporting the patient to their doctor’s appointments
    • Providing comfort and support
    • Helping the patient’s caregiver with their errands and other daily tasks

If you’re interested in being a volunteer contact us through our online form. We’ll then discuss the role you’re interested in taking on, and give you an overview on the training that you will need

Fundraising Support: Our events and fundraisers would not be successful without the assistance of all Friends of Hospice and our many volunteers.

Volunteers can help with organizing an event by joining a planning committee, assisting with set-up and breakdown at event locations, capturing the event as a photographer, registration, road marshals, selling raffle tickets and merchandise, collecting donations, providing entertainment as a performer, graphic design.

We hold a number of events throughout the year.

Reason for volunteering: it is inhuman to see someone suffering without lending a hand for help.
A word for other volunteers: let’s always remember that when we do good, the goodness comes back to us, the Bible tells us to be our brothers keepers, us we strive to keep ourselves well let’s also zoom our cameras around to our brothers and sisters in need, thank you.

I was inspired by being part of Diversional Therapy activities in Australia with my dear Aunt, who I lost to cancer.  Being able to volunteer my time to start this important therapy at Nairobi Hospice has been rewarding and meaningful.

The greatest gift you can give someone is your time because when you give your time, you are giving a portion of your life that you will never get back.” Anonymous

Been a volunteer for a year. I choose to volunteer because i wanted to share my talent as a gift in the music therapy which cheers, uplifts and heals. Every one has something to give back to the society, for me its the music therapy which is a language of it own that is understood by all because it communicates with the heart.

My name is Evelynn Grace Kanya. I have been a volunteer with the hospice from 2014. I started as a volunteer at  the children’s cancer ward 1E way back in the year 2002. We used to go visit with other youths from church . But after a visit to the hospice for a daycare session i became a member and have since trained as a palliative care giver. I am passionate about people moreso the suffering in our community . It gives me great joy and contentment to be able to help humanity .

I am eternally grateful to Nairobi Hospice for their dedication and selfless efforts towards palliative care to our patients and their families . I would also invite more people to join the efforts of the Hospice as partners or even volunteers . You are welcome to give your time and resources . It is a very noble and fulfilling task.
